Perilla

Herbaceous annual plant native to Asia, Perilla frutescens is an edible plant, grown in gardens and attracting butterflies. It is aromatic with a strong mint-like smell.

Used in the Japanese and Chinese cuisine, Perilla frutescens's leaves are used both as a decoration and as a leaf vegetable in fish dishes.

Also Perilla's seeds are used in the cuisine: salted and eaten as snack or used as spice.
