Artemisia absinthium is a perennial herbaceous herb native to temperate regions of Eurasia and Northern Africa.

Artemisia absinthium grows naturally on uncultivated arid ground and on rocky slopes.The plant can in fact easily be cultivated in dry soil.

Absinthe is the aromatic base in the preparation of vermouth liqueur and the distillate known as absinthe liqueur.
