Salvia officinalis is an evergreen perennial shrub, native to the Mediterranean area.
Common sage grows up to 40 cm high and produce during spring elegant blue-mauve flowers.
Since ancient times, people used sage as culinary herb. Its leaves are really good to flavor fat meats such as that of pork and duck. Salvia is also used in cosmetics and as an insect repellent.
Broadleaf sage's leaves are larger and darker than the common sage's ones.
