The common name by which this species is known is a direct reference to the type of use that has been made of the inflorescences since ancient times.

In fact, a bright yellow color was obtained from the flower, with which fabrics were dyed. Nowadays the inflorescences are used in Türkiye and India for the wool coloring.

It is an easy-to-grow perennial species. The abundant flowering in the summer period is also interesting for bees and pollinating insects!

*At the same time as the autumn/winter period, the plant may appear sparse or devoid of vegetation.
